Living the LA Condo Lifestyle

Pet Law and Services

If hoping to bring your furry pal with you into an LA condo, be sure to check the rules of all the condominiums you look at regarding pets. It is generally best to only look at those complexes that allow your type of pet, instead of possibly falling in love with one that does not. Never try to sneak your pet into a condo where it is prohibited. In addition, California law does not allow certain animals as pets, including gerbils, ferrets, skunks, and sugar gliders.

In the city of Los Angeles resident dogs (not cats) are required to be licensed; licenses are available form shelters, through veterinarians, or by mail from the Department of Animal Regulation (888-452-7381). Dogs that are four months or older cost an annual fee of ten dollars a year if spayed or neutered, and thirty dollars otherwise. You must also provide a rabies vaccination certificate. Off Leash Parks:

In Los Angeles, there is zero tolerance policy for off-leash dogs; unless that is, you take your canine to an off leash park. Some of these parks in LA are outfitted with drinking fountains for your dog, and free baggies for scooping up poop. Here are some suggestions:

  • Laurel Canyon Park- Mullholland Drive (just after Laurel Canyon); open after 3p.m.
  • Runyon Canyon Park- Fuller Avenue (the north end of Fuller, west of La Brea, north of Franklin Ave.)
  • Silverlake Dog Park- Silverlake Blvd. at Easterly Terrace
  • Westminster Park, 1234 Pacific Avenue on the east side of Westminster Park
