Living the LA Condo Lifestyle

Culver City

An incorporated city surrounded by Los Angeles, Culver City runs approximately east-west in an oddly-shaped profile of accumulated annexations that eventually grew to about five square miles. Henry H. Culver began planning the city in 1913. A few short years later, Thomas Ince was persuaded by Culver to site his movie studio there and Ince built the distinctive colonnade entrance to Ince/Triangle Studios with his partners, D.W. Griffith and Mack Sennett. By 1918, the lot became Goldwyn Studios, and in 1924, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The property continued to change hands over the years, but its commitment to the entertainment industry remained, and in 1990 it was purchased by Sony and is today the headquarters of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

In recent years, Culver City has undergone a transformation from a modest, undervalued bedroom community to a hot restaurant and entertainment center, complete with movie and stage theaters, Image Previewa lively weekly farmers market, lovely, well-maintained parks, a symphony orchestra and the truly odd Museum of Jurassic Technology. In the works: the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Exposition Light Rail project, a 9.6-mile light rail line from downtown Los Angeles to Culver City.

In addition to tree-lined streets of small houses, Culver City has several large complexes of garden-style condominiums, including Lakeside Village, the Pines, Heather Village, and Raintree Townhomes. With its central location, Culver City provides quick freeway access to LAX, Santa Monica, Westwood, and downtown Los Angeles
